Insurance coverage for Home Blood Glucose Monitors and Supplies

MEDICARE

Medicare Part B will cover these items at 80% as long as the yearly $124.00 deductible is met. Medicare will pay for these with a doctor’s prescription no matter if the client is diet controlled, on oral agents or insulin. The frequency of testing MUST be stated on the CMN if the client is diet controlled or oral agents. If an insulin controlled client is testing greater than TID, this frequency must be stated on the CMN.

Most Medicare clients subscribe to a supplemental insurance that may or may not pick up the remaining 20%. These supplemental insurance policies may also pay the yearly deductible.

RI MEDICAL ASSISTANCE

Complete coverage for these items with a physician’s CMN. GPA will also pay for these items.

NEIGHBORHOOD HEALTH OF RHODE ISLAND

Complete coverage for these items with a physician’s CMN. Some plans may not have coverage.

MASS HEALTH

Supplies (test strips and lancets) are covered for these clients on any therapy. Meters are only covered if the client is injecting insulin.

RI BCBS

RI Blue Cross pays for these items as a major medical benefit. These usually pay at 80% with various deductibles or even no deductibles, depending on the group plan. PCS is a PPO provider for RI BCBS. Federal BCBS also pays for these items with copays and deductibles.

TRICARE

These items are covered at various levels, depending on the plan. PCS accepts assignment for these clients and bills directly to Tricare.

UNITED HEALTH CARE, MC COMPLETE and RITE CARE - UHC

PCS is able to take these referrals and bill through South County Surgical for these supplies. We accept assignment with all of the UHC plans.
